I’m Miloš, a father of two beautiful girls.
I have a Ph.D. in telecommunications from CTU in Prague, with a research stint at Concordia University in Montreal — years spent reasoning about routing light through optical networks. My master’s thesis was adding RFC 3149 support to Asterisk — hard-core C. On the other hand, my PhD was about C++, CPLEX, and a lot of Python. Somewhere along the way, a few colleagues and I shipped a communication box to the Czech Antarctic station. It was named Bender. These days I mostly route garden sprinklers, but I am ready for fiber optics in our family house while using 60 GHz and copper!
I do love Engineering in any form, and during the day I spend most of my time around software engineering. I make sure we get our models to production in the leanest way possible while our systems stay a masterpiece of engineering! Some of the more interesting things I’ve built I’m not really supposed to talk about, which sounds mysterious and is exactly as fun as it sounds. By night I do other crazy stuff like patching compilers, building smart automation around the house, and using AI very heavily.
I ran Linux as my daily driver from 2002 — I still remember how connecting wifi was about wpa_supplicant.conf, but it was something compared to Windows XP, which could not even connect to Wi-Fi — though these days it’s just a Mac. I probably should not have gone to Canada in 2012 and read Steve Jobs. I’ve been writing Python since 2007, and a decade of PyCharm on top left me with muscle memory so deep that I judge every editor by whether ctrl-d starts a debug session.
Current obsessions: learning Zig because I gave quite a lot of time to Rust and Go, which promised to be cool — but the opposite is true: each has something strange in it. Zig seems just right, but the ecosystem is so green. In other words, I don’t know whether I’ll stick with the language, but the language is making me happy!
Things I believe:
- Engineering is art and everything deserves to be beautiful (even the other side of the fence),
- debuggers beat print statements, and automated testing is a prime principle,
- muscle memory is sacred,
- the best way to learn a language is to start using it daily.
